Great Basin Brewing Company Releases Brew to Help Fight “Lou Gehrig’s Disease”

June 5, 2014

Brewed For A Cure

RENO, Nev. (June 5, 2014) – Great Basin Brewing Company is one of only 70 microbreweries nationwide, and the only one in Nevada, that have come together to support the fight against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease.” ALS affects an estimated 30,000 people living in the United Sates today and currently has no known cure. The nationwide Ales for ALS™ program seeks to raise funding for the research of ALS by giving participating breweries across the country an experimental hop blend, free of charge, to craft into any beer they see fit. This year’s blend was designed by Russian River Brewing Company's Vinnie Cilurzo, Bell’s Brewery's John Mallet and Sierra Nevada's Ken Grossman and was donated by Hopunion and B.T. Loftus Ranches.

Taking this unique blend of experimental hops, Great Basin has brewed “Buster No. 4,” a one-of-a-kind strong IPA. The brew features the hop blend added at eight different points in the brewing process, giving it a wide variety of flavors and aromas such as bubblegum, grape, green apple, tropical fruits, citrus, blueberry and spiced herbal notes of mint, tea, and pine.

Great Basin will donate $1 from every pint sold to benefit ALS Therapy Development Institute, the world's leading ALS research organization. “In 2013 we were excited to have given over $5,700 in donations to Ales for ALS,” said Tom Young, Great Basin’s owner and brewmaster. “This year we hope to raise even more money to help find a cure for ALS.”

“Buster No. 4” is now available on tap at both Reno and Sparks brewpubs. For more information please visit greatbasinbrewingco.com and alesforals.com.
