Great Basin Brewing Company Launches “Locals Only” Event
Local Beef and Produce, That Is – Localvore Wednesdays

RENO, Nev. (August 27, 2011) – Great Basin Brewing Company, with locations in Reno and Sparks, Nevada, invites diners to “forage something fresh” with a new weekly event – Localvore Wednesdays – featuring unique, handcrafted dinner specials of brewery beef and produce from local farms. New recipes from chef Tracy Darue will be presented to diners each week, reflecting the freshest seasonal local produce and herbs available. The weekly event started mid-August and will continue every Wednesday while seasonal produce is still available.

The beef served is not only local, but also part of an environmentally responsible practice. From the brewery to the farm and back, Great Basin sends its spent barley from the brewing process to local farmer Karl Baker, owner of Brewery Beef, who uses it as feed for the cows. Great Basin’s barley-fed cow is then sent to local USDA-approved Wolf Pack Meats to be prepared for public consumption. Diners can enjoy the grain-fed goodness and the bounty of locally grown harvest in a series of Wednesday night menu specials.

Localvore Wednesdays are part of Great Basin’s ongoing commitment to support local farmers, observe earth-friendly practices, and deliver a fresh, exciting dining experience to the public. The brewery has enacted an unwavering policy to ensure that as much as possible of the restaurant’s ingredients and materials are composted, recycled or reused – currently achieving that at a rate of 95%.

One of the newest additions to the local-ingredient-infused menu, available for takeout and soon to be sold in local stores, is the Brewmaster’s Artisan “Icky” Bread – a one-of-a-kind, beer-inspired recipe baked fresh daily. The bread is handcrafted, with the Ichthyosaur “Icky” IPA giving it depth and complexity, while the reuse of the barley left after the brewing process adds strength and fiber. Local honey from Hidden Valley Honey brings the ultimate balance of flavor.
